I’ve been meaning to post about fashion & design’s current obsession with Matisse, but I haven’t gotten around to compiling all of my visuals and evidence. However, you can consider this an introduction. It seems this year everyone agreed to design prints, jewelry, pottery and anything else you can think of, paying homage to the French painter’s characteristic line quality. My guess is this trend must have stemmed from the massive “Henri Matisse: Cut-Outs” retrospective at the Tate Modern in London back in April 2014, which then travelled to the MoMA en New York in October of the same year and until February of the following.
From pillows, vases and rugs, to jewelry, towels and t-shirts; Matisse motifs are popping up everywhere. Even here in Panama, where I found this beautiful abstract printed skirt at Felix, that just reminded me so much of Matisse’s brush strokes and his particular shades of red and blue.
