It’s no secret that Phoebe Philo is one of my favorite designers, but her influence goes beyond clothes for me. Céline’s communication, typography, ad campaigns, packaging and even the interior design of their stores is deeply inspirational, don’t you think? I love the way a Céline collection is styled—how the looks are put together with such ease. The half tucked shirt, the hair tucked into the turtleneck, the extra long sleeves with unbuttoned cuffs, the barely there make up with a bold lip and air dried hair… Those are all outfit details and nuances I’ve played around with, hoping to add an air of nonchalance to my style. For Spring 2017, Céline sent tights down the runway. Not your typical black opaque tights, but bright red and nurse-like white ones. I had forgotten about tights before I saw those images on Vogue Runway. In fact, I had a ton of pairs in many colors from American Apparel, circa 2007, and I gave them all away last year. Probably because I live in a tropical climate, but mostly because I never saw them as more than a way to keep my legs warm when I was in New York. Like perhaps as a tool to enhance the color scheme of an outfit, or to add an element of surprise, which is how I think Phoebe thought of them for Spring. But now, thanks again to Céline, it’s really the opposite. I was sweating my butt off taking these photos, but I just really had to try it for myself.
