I’ve never been able to draw a decent cat eye on myself, or anyone for that matter. I can draw, however—I am a graphic designer, aren’t I? But for the life of me, I cannot seem to get the eyeliner thing down. So when the smudgy, painterly, messy eyeliner and eye shadow trend came along, I finally felt like I could play around more with my eye makeup and not care so much about perfection or symmetry. I was specially inspired by a story on Into The Gloss where they heavily featured Dior’s Diorshow On Stage Liquid Eyeliner in every single shade. It was like the model’s eyelids were literal canvases. I had to try a similar style on myself—because what are fashion and beauty for if not experimentation and self-expression? So I went and got the liner in white because I thought it was the most unexpected of all the colors, to start with at least. Considering I want—no, need—I need them all. To balance this graphic look, I used Glossier’s Cloud Paint in Beam and a subtle blurred lip via Chanel’s brand-spanking new Rouge Allure Liquid Powder lip color in Radical. By the way, if you’re as bad at applying lipstick as I am at lining my eyes, the blurred lip is the trend for you—so there you have it. Run, don’t walk, to Chanel and get yourself this new innovative formula.
