Great things are happening in Panama. Businesses are popping up here and there, each more design-oriented than the previous one. Ochoymedio Panama is one of those said new ventures with jaw dropping decor to accompany its equally impressive menu, cocktails and wine list. After seeing a few photos on social media, I just had to pay a visit and see it with my own two eyes. Of course, one post comprised of one image is not enough to get the full grasp of a space, so I decided to share with you a more detailed look inside. And by detailed, I mean really detailed and up-close. The combination of colors, textures, materials, surfaces and finishes at Ochoymedio is a feast for the eyes, so I ended up taking many narrow shots to showcase the juxtapositions within. Circle-patterned cement tiles; white and cream terrazo tables; blue quilted leather booths; bentwood Hoffman and Thonet chairs; baby pink walls; a Canal Zone inspired, mint-colored, indoor wood gazebo (don’t know what else to call it); a Verde Alpi marble bar; Negro Marquina marble-covered columns; a Carrara marble bar around the open kitchen; palm-print and Fornasetti Cole & Son wallpapers… All of this in a space that used to be an all-girls Catholic school almost (or probably) a century ago –hence the still standing mosaic Virgin Mary in the patio.
The design was at the helm of Sketch, who’s owner and director Johann Wolfschoon is also a member of Diablo Rosso; co-owners of Ochoymedio, together with chef Andrés Madrigal of Michelin Star fame and his lovely wife Valle who so kindly let me take a million photos all over the place.
If you’re ever in Panama, this is a must for dinner, drinks and drooling over the decor 😉
Thanks for reading.
