I find the whole Vetements phenomenon highly amusing. I love the nostalgic 90s irony that permeates through Demna Gvasalia’s designs and it’s entertaining to watch each new collection unfold on the runway at Paris Fashion Week via the screen of my laptop. It’s actually no surprise Demna’s background includes a stint at Margiela, because Vetements is very much wearable conceptual art. More specifically speaking, Dada art, I would say, for its cheekiness and self-referencing motifs. Amusement and appreciation aside, I’m not ready to cough up $330 for the DHL t-shirt. Still, that doesn’t mean I can’t hop on the Vetements bandwagon somehow right?
