I’ve always been attracted to slightly unflattering pants. I think style isn’t necessarily about wearing things that fit you “right” and make you look taller, slimmer, etcetera. But about wearing things that fit your personality right. That make you feel great and, consequently, look great. Granted, you could argue that if you look great then you’ll feel great. But for me it’s mostly the other way around. One of those unflattering items I’m always drawn to are high waisted trousers with pleats and a tapered leg. This combination of characteristics result in a kind of baggy hip area (okay, “fupa”), that would have any image consultant running for the hills. But me? Nope! Bring it. This khaki paper bag/ruched iteration from Mango was a riskier bet than these pants usually entail—I blindly ordered them online—but fortunately they were a perfect fit. They gave me a Southern France vibe for some reason, so I decided to wear them with a vintage Max Mara linen shirt I stole from my mom, my most provincial hat (from Zara), and a straw bag, naturally. Une Soupe Au Pistou, s’il vous plait!
