The tassel obsession continues. As I mentioned earlier, I’m a little addicted to them! It’s kind of odd though, because to me they just remind me so much of fabric shopping with my mother. We went through a big move when I was a preteen –I don’t remember exactly how old I was– and my mom took me with her everywhere; furniture shopping, curtain shopping, kitchen shopping, etc. Her decor style is on the traditional side and she’s very fond of anything French (aren’t we all?!) so our apartment around that time was neoclassical, I guess. Definitely something Napoleon would feel at home in. There were tassels and trimmings everywhere. There were even tassels hanging on doorknobs, pulling back brocade curtains and decorating sconces –because chandelier-style crystal sconces can always use more ornament, right? It’s safe to say, if my mom had a logo, it would be a tassel.
So, if you would’ve told my 10 year old self that 15+ years later I would be –maybe– as obsessed with tassels as my mom, I would’ve been like “No way! As if!”. Nevertheless, trends have a funny way of seeping into our fashion subconscious like that and challenging our perception of even the most appalling creations –remember how you felt about Birkenstocks in 2005 versus 2015? Yeah. Well… Tassels are totally the new Birkenstocks!
Are there any trends you never thought you’d wear but somehow fell for? Do tell!
